Ann Remick

Ann Remick has been serving as Personnel Consultant/Historian since the mill closed, an especially knowledgeable source for the museum Working Group as we continue to identify former workers and their roles in the paper making process here. Hired in 1983 by St. Regis, she proudly reports how she “started at the bottom” sorting and delivering mail, moving to  the switchboard, payroll, shipping and receiving, maintenance, secretary, and Human Resources (HR) where she started as an Administrative Benefit Specialist then HR Generalist. Once she became a salaried employee she continued to work with benefits of all aspects— disability, workers’ compensation, and health (medical, dental, Employee Assistance Program).

The story of her time with the mill can be found in her documentary chapter, “Over” in STILL MILL beginning with her memorable experiences working with union members to design a medical plan for all mill employees. She prizes the trust and respect she earned in this role and what she and her co-workers created together.

As the mill started downsizing she remained as “the go to person” for help solving all manner of problems related to the dismantling of the mill, priding herself that her door was always open and that she became one of the last to turn off the lights, her work becoming all the more challenging at the end as she was losing her job, too.
